Texting: Top Reasons Why Teens Text While Driving
A recent survey by Seventeen magazine and the American Automobile Association (AAA) found that almost 9 out of 10 teenage drivers have completed a distracting activity while driving, such as texting or talking on their cell phones, even though most of them are aware that the activity can increase their risk of getting into an accident.
Here are some of the reasons teens gave about why they “engage in distracted driving”:
1) It only takes a split second (41%)
2) They don't think they'll get hurt (35%)
3) It makes driving less boring (22%)
4) They are used to being connected to people at all times (21%)
If you suspect your teenager is texting or talking on their cell phone behind the wheel, talk to them about the dangerous reality. Remind your kids that there was a time when most people did not wear seatbelts, until studies showed that it saved lives.
