Social Networks: Son Sues Mom for Facebook Harassment

Parents around the country have taken experts’ advice to heart by “friending” their children on social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter in an effort to monitor both their behavior and virtual lives.  Now, a 16-year-old boy in Arkansas has decided to sue his mother for crossing that very line.

Denise New, of Arkadelphia, allegedly hacked into her son’s Facebook account, changed his password and posted defamatory messages about him repeatedly.  Ms. New does not share a home with her son (whose name has not been released); the boy’s grandmother maintains custody.

Ms. New plans to fight the case, citing her legal right to monitor her son’s behavior.
