Anthony Orsini, the principal at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey, sent a broadcast e-mail to all his students’ parents, asking them to remove their children’s profiles from Facebook and other social networking sites.
Orsini’s reasoning behind the request relies mainly on his belief that tweens cannot endure name-calling, or cyber-bullying. According to Orsini, the middle school’s guidance counselors have been helping to reconcile various fights that actually began online. The principal also mentioned a specific concern about students’ use of Formspring, a new social networking website that allows users to ask and answer questions about other members.
