Sexting: Virginia High School Students Arrested for Sexting

Parents of a teenage boy facing 12 felonies in Franklin County, Virginia for sexting told reporters that her son did not understand that his actions were illegal.  The boy’s mother, Shari Toomey, says a girl unfamiliar to her son asked to borrow his cell phone.  When he retrieved the device later in the day, he found sexually charged photos of the girl which he then emailed to his best friend.

The Toomeys say their son suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism which causes difficulties in social interaction.  Although they do not excuse their son’s behavior, they are angry that he was questioned prior to their arrival.
