Privacy: New York Senator Chuck Schumer Criticizes Social Networks

The New York Daily News reports that New York State Senator Chuck Schumer held a press conference today blasting Facebook and other social networking sites over allegedly profiting by selling their users’ private information to marketers.

Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) wrote a letter to the Federal Trade Commission requesting that they set up guidelines to restrict data that websites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace can simply hand over to advertisers.

Last week, Facebook announced that the private data of their 400 million users would be made available to businesses.
