Privacy: Google’s Hackers Hit Password System

In January, Google suffered a major cyberattack when Chinese hackers penetrated their security system.

Today, The New York Times reported that the hackers were actually able to infiltrate Google’s complex password system, called Gaia.  Designed to allow users to log in only once, the software controls access to all of Google’s web services including Gmail accounts.

Though the details surrounding the cyberattack are not known, The New York Times reports that the hackers did not appear to have stolen any Gmail passwords.  Google has tightened security since the attack, but the assault leaves skeptics wondering if a similar threat is imminent.
