Privacy: Facebook Responds To Criticism with Changes
This week, Facebook announced that it has made changes to its user controls to allow for easier configuration of privacy settings for their nearly 500 million members. The modifications will retroactively manage content that has already been posted. The company also promises to lessen the amount of future changes to help avoid confusion.
This recent round of changes includes: a new privacy control center with “one-click” settings, less required public information, and simpler ways to turn off apps and opt-out of their personalization program. Facebook says they have shared these new changes with several Internet safety advocates including Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), Consumer Action, Progress and Freedom Foundation, NetChoice, CATO Institute, TRUSTe, and the Technology Policy Institute.
