Privacy: Facebook Adds Security to Thwart Hackers

This week, Facebook announced a new security feature that will allow their 400 million members to designate specific “approved” computers and mobile phones to access their accounts.  If an unapproved device attempts access, users will be notified via email or text message.  Although this change was made to protect accounts from hackers, it does not change Facebook’s privacy policy.

Facebook members must first opt-in for this change to take effect.  To initiate the change, log into your Facebook account and click “Account” on the upper right part of the screen, and then click “Account Settings” from the drop down menu.  Scroll down to “Account Security” and click “change.”  Once prompted about whether or not you wish to receive notifications for logins from new devices, click “Yes” and hit “Submit.”
