Privacy: Are YouTube Children in Danger?

These days, videos of children can be found all over YouTube.  Some of the videos go viral, receiving millions of hits, and can even jumpstart a career or two.  That is exactly how teen heartthrob Justin Bieber got his start.  More recently, a public video of 12-year-old Greyson Michael Chance performing a Lada Gaga song at school became so popular that Ellen Degeneres invited him to be a guest on her talk show.

It is indeed a new kind of "stage parent" that purposely releases these types of videos to the public.  However, some critics wonder if posting videos of young children is exploitative. After all, how can the child understand all the privacy risks involved?  Many of these videos will be seen by millions of people all over the world for years, and parents of these YouTube children could be setting their children up for serious dangers.
