Online Reputation: Protecting Yourself

With the increase of coworkers and employers connecting on social networks like Facebook and MySpace, protecting one’s online reputation has become a real challenge.  In many cases, employers see blog rants written by disgruntled employees who are unhappy at their jobs.  This creates trust issues and can even lead to disciplinary action by the employer.

Most children and teenagers do not understand the implications that their online postings and photographs may bring since content posted on the Internet remains there forever.  This is especially a concern when applying to colleges and jobs.  Viadeo, a business social network, recently published a report stating that one in five employers find information online about prospective job candidates, and 59% admitted that what they find influences their decisions about whether or not to hire them.
