Online Reputation: How To Manage Your Online Reputation

Remember, your online reputation = what you do and say + what others say about you.

Tip #1

Manage your connections on all social networking sites, including Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.  You may have locked your security settings, but what about your friends?  If an outsider landed on their page, what would they find out about you?  Photos, comments you left, personal information, or more?

Tip #2

Push Bad Content Down on Search Engines.  You’ve asked your buddy to delete the embarrassing photograph of you, but he refused.  What can you do? Post competing photographs of yourself that exhibit a more mature you.  Over time, that horrible photo of you won’t appear at the top of Google's search list.

Tip #3

Look into “Reputation Protection.”  It’s a growing industry and soon enough, small businesses offering this service will start popping up all over the Internet.
