Internet Privacy: How Facebook Can Kill Your Career

According to recent polls, 30% of employers use Facebook to screen potential employees.  That fact raises serious concerns about internet privacy and and gives us all a thing or two to think about regarding our online reputations and to protect child's online reputation.

Here are some popular mistakes that individuals make on Facebook and other social network websites:

  1. Posting inappropriate photographs
  2. Complaining about your current job, coworkers and/or boss
  3. Posting conflicting work experience with your resume
  4. Posting status updates that make you look anything but professional
  5. Letting it all hang out.  Mind your security settings, or anybody and everybody can easily see your whole life story.
  6. Not being vigilant when it comes to associated content.  e.g.: If a friend tags a blatantly drunk photo of you? You should probably detag yourself, or a potential employer could see it.
