Cyber-Bullying: Google Executives Convicted Over Cyber-Bullying Case
Three Google executives in Milan, Italy were convicted of violating the country’s privacy code over a video posted on Google that showed four high school boys teasing an autistic classmate. Although Google removed the video from the search platform, the executives were still sentenced to 6-months suspended jail terms.
In essence, the Italian courts are a
sking that every website review any content that is uploaded by individual users. This ruling could potentially be detrimental for other social media websites like Blogger and YouTube where user-generated videos are uploaded daily.
Some legal experts believe that the Google conviction violates European law and will likely be overturned. In the meantime, internet companies are feeling the pressure.
